Vintage table lamp by Rotaflex from the 1950s. This lamp has a tripod base in metal with a neck in brass.
The lamp has signs of wear that are typical for its age. For example, there are small particles of missing paint on the base (see photo). The hood also has age spots which contribute to a beautiful patina.
Rotaflex was founded in 1953 by Bernard Stern who ensured that the company became one of the most prominent in Great Britain in just a few years. Rotaflex has received several awards including the coveted iF Design Award in 1957.
The type of plastic used to manufacture the lamp was invented by Rotaflex in collaboration with the French company ARP – L' Atelier de Recherche Plastique. The ARP was founded in 1954 by Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier & Joseph-André Motte and ceased operations just 3 years later.
